Anyone who wants to holiday in this impressive area would do best to look for holiday homes in southern France; in the Ardèche area you will find many landlords offering holiday homes – and these are mostly cheaper than comparable holiday apartments in Germany. Holiday homes in the south of France – sought and found
The internet today is an inexhaustible source of useful and less useful information. But especially in the travel sector, the possibilities of researching and comparing online are worth their weight in gold. Whether you are looking for a hotel, holiday home or campsite in a particular region or want to book a flight from A to B, you can do it comfortably on the web and do not even need to leave the house, for example to go to a travel agency and respond by post to newspaper adverts and request information.
On the internet you get everything up to date, fast and convenient. The problem here is rather finding. “Gorsch de Ardesch” or rather “Gorges de l’Ardèche”, or simply the Ardèche Gorge
Admittedly, a difficult term (for non-French speakers) that is often misspelled or mispronounced. The Ardèche Gorge and the Ardèche département (no. 07, which also appears on the licence plates of the people who live there) are spelled exactly like that. If you must, you can leave out the accent on the “e”. But please do not write “Ardesch” or “Ardesche” or “Gorsch de Ardesch”, or search for them in Google. In German phonetic spelling it is actually “Ardäsch” 😉
Otherwise you will find, at most, such funny websites as the one by Sachsen-Uli, where France is spelled “Frangreisch” (in Saxon dialect):
France travel tips: the Dordogne
The Dordogne area is in the south-west of France, in the north of Aquitaine (now Nouvelle-Aquitaine), and has an area of 9,060 square kilometres. The Dordogne is regarded by many, and rightly so, as one of the most beautiful areas of France: everywhere the traveller encounters prehistoric and historical sights such as the cave paintings and rock drawings in Lascaux and Les Eyzies-de-Tayac, which point to settlement of this region in prehistoric times. The medieval towns of Sarlat and Brantôme are among the most beautiful towns in France. The Dordogne département has the most châteaux and castles. Many of these buildings date from the 13th and 14th centuries and recall the wars between England and France. In the late 20th century, rural flight began in parts of the region, so that today many of the sparsely populated areas depend on agriculture and tourism. Nevertheless there are in the towns a few small industrial businesses processing wood and making paper and shoes. Continue reading “France travel tips: the Dordogne”
