The holiday home on the Ardèche: quiet and peaceful on the edge of the village of Labastide-de-Virac, ten minutes from the Ardèche and the well-known water sports centre Vallon-Pont-d’Arc . We built our holiday home in 2005 in the regional style in natural stone so that it blends in with the character of the old village of Labastide-de-Virac. The large 2,000 m² garden, enclosed by three-metre-high box hedges, offers sunny spots and natural shade under old holm oaks.

The natural-stone house has about 90 m² of living space and offers room and comfort for up to four guests. It has two bedrooms; the bedding is as follows: 1 bedroom with a double bed with 2 mattresses of 90 x 200 cm, the other bedroom has 2 single beds of 100 x 200 cm each; the pillows are 74 x 74; a large living/dining room with satellite TV and DVD player, a modern fully equipped fitted kitchen (dishwasher, fridge, separate freezer, electric cooker with ceramic hob and oven), a large shower room, washing machine. The house is air-conditioned: living/dining room and bedrooms.

The outdoor facilities include a shady pergola covered with Virginia creeper on the south side, a generous south-west terrace and a covered seating area. Terrace and garden furniture, four sun loungers, a parasol and a barbecue are provided.

We personally planned and newly built the holiday home in 2005. It is comfortably and tastefully furnished. The detached holiday home has the great advantage of more space and privacy than a holiday flat. An ideal place for voyages of discovery into the vineyards and lavender fields of the Vivarais with its picturesque villages. »Holiday home / Rates »Availability plan

The village: Labastide-de-Virac is a likeable, small, rustic and listed village (Village de Caractère) south of the Ardèche. Its charm comes from the characteristic old natural-stone houses. There are two restaurants and a small farm shop run by a local farmer, where you can get everything you need for your physical well-being. Labastide is an ideal starting point for excursions into the Ardèche gorge and the highlands of Orgnac. From Labastide you can also reach the Ardèche nature reserve on foot along hiking trails or by car. Long hikes through the varied landscape are possible here. Among the sights of Labastide is the well-preserved Château des Roure from the 15th century, which houses a silk museum well worth seeing. From the castle, visitors have a magnificent view over the Ardèche gorge. The castle of Labastide-de-Virac was also caught up in the French Wars of Religion: in 1703 it was attacked by the Camisards (the name of the Huguenots in the Cévennes). More to know about the region and the regional wines, tips for excursions and outdoor activities, and pointers to particularly lovely weekly markets in the villages of the area, we have compiled on the following pages. The Ardèche: a wild and romantic river in southern France that rises in the Massif Central and, after about 120 km, flows into the Rhône north of Avignon near Pont-St.-Esprit. It gives its name to the Ardèche département. Particularly picturesque in its middle third, between the towns of Vallon-Pont-d’Arc and St. Martin-d’Ardèche, is the break-through from the high plateau of the French Massif Central into the Rhône plain in the form of a gorge about 30 km long (Gorges de l’Ardèche). The gateway to the Ardèche gorge with its 7 rapids is the imposing 60-metre rock arch Pont d’Arc, to which the town of Vallon owes its nickname. The landscape along the Ardèche is a paradise for nature lovers, hikers, climbers, water sports enthusiasts (canoe and kayak), cave divers and of course swimmers and sun worshippers. The Ardèche’s tributaries Chassezac and Beaume also have wonderful gorges where it is excellent for hiking, swimming, climbing or just lazing around. A highlight for families is the one-day canoe trip through the Ardèche gorge (30 km). It is best to start at 9:00 in the morning in Vallon-Pont-d’Arc. Then you can enjoy the wild, romantic stretch downstream to St. Martin to the full. The canoe hire company will pick you up there again at about 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Alternatively, there is also a short trip of about 7 km, recommended for trying it out. Details about the Ardèche and the canoe trip » The wine region Côtes du Vivarais: Located in the south-east of France, the Ardèche département offers tourist and oenological attractions of a special kind. The region is named after the river Ardèche, which makes its way through impressive valleys and gorges to feed the Rhône with its waters after 125 kilometres. No less impressive are the Côtes du Vivarais, which extend over almost 650 hectares of vineyards and whose wines enjoy an extraordinarily high reputation among connoisseurs. Although the wine-growing region has carried the Vin Délimité de Qualité Supérieure (VDQS) designation since the 1960s, it has only been allowed to use the name AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée) since 1999.
