Trekking Magazin 04/2013: France’s wild south, the Ardèche

Trekking Magazin, issue 4-13

Yesterday we read the new issue 4 (July/August) 2013 of Trekking Magazin, with the Ardèche as its main theme. We liked the article on trekking tours (in plain English: walks) in the Ardèche region very much. It describes hikes in the northern, mountainous part around Aubenas as well as in the southern part of the département around the Ardèche Gorge. Some trails are also suitable for mountain bikers. However, we felt that the cover story could have been a little more detailed and run to more pages. But that is of course also down to our special interest in the wonderful Ardèche region.

The magazine contains many other articles too, such as the one on Paklenica National Park in Croatia, where the Winnetou films were shot (very nice descriptions and photos).

Particularly worth highlighting are the info boxes for each hiking area presented, which give you at a glance the difficulty, length and duration of the tours as well as the maps you need.

The article “Trekking with children” in the issue presented here offers practical tips for parents on how to awaken their little hikers’ enthusiasm and keep them in good spirits.

We find the magazine very well put together and of high quality all round. The writing style is also brisk and not too dry.
